Bloomsbury

A wonderfully naive and unstructured floral we found in a private collection that reminded us of the wild and fabulous bouquets painted by members of The Bloomsbury Group - a bohemian group of friends that worked and often lived together in early 20th century England. They used color and pattern with abandon and we love them for it!

The Bloomsbury Group

The Bloomsbury Group (1905-early 1930's) were a bohemian literary and artist group of friends that worked together in early 20th century England. They are named after the area the majority of the members called home in London. One of our favorite artists - Vanessa Bell was a founding member of the group. She rejected the usual distinction between fine and decorative arts and applied her skills to multiple mediums including fabric, ceramic and book covers for The Hogarth Press who published her sister Virginia Woolf.
