Meet Madeleine

The vintage silk swatch that inspired our design reminded us of the naive floral studies that Sonia Delaunay painted for her good friends Madeleine and Robert Perrier. The originals were on display at the Bard Graduate Center in New York in the Sonia Delaunay: Living Art exhibition. We had never seen them before.

Meet Madeleine

Named after Madeleine Perrier whose husband Robert worked for many years with Sonia Delaunay to commission and then reproduce her stunning artwork on fabric. All three remained close friends for many years and as a gift for their 25th wedding anniversary in 1948 Delaunay gave them several gauche studies of abstract flowers intertwined with their names. They were never reproduced and were kept by the Perrier family as "precious tokens of friendship". They have become some of our favorite pieces by Delaunay.
